New fast-curing Araldite® adhesives from Huntsman
With two new methyl methacrylate adhesives, Bodo Möller Chemie expands the Huntsman product range, which the Offenbach-based specialty chemicals company markets throughout the world. The two new MMA adhesives, Araldite® 2050 and Araldite® 2051, make fast bonding possible, even under extreme temperature and humidity conditions. In addition to their outstanding bonding performance, the new products offer comprehensive processing advantages for assembly, maintenance and repair bonding operations in the bus, truck, rail, wind and shipping industries as well as for general industrial applications. In automated assembly processes, the fast curing speed at room temperature can increase productivity because cycle times are significantly reduced. Thus, with the new MMA adhesives, manufacturers producing large quantities of small parts with fully automated dosing machines can increase productivity without affecting bonding strength.
Advantages of Araldite® 2050 and Araldite® 2051
The two new MMA adhesives allow bonding underwater, in salt water as well as in cold or hot and humid environments. The adhesives based on methacrylic acid ester consist of two components and are easy to process, cure rapidly, and are very strong thereafter. Their aging and weathering resistance is excellent, particularly under very humid conditions or temperature fluctuations. Moreover, the adhesives also remain stable when exposed to the permanent vibrations in the structural bonding of machines and installations. Araldite® 2050 cures ultra-fast and speeds up bonding in temperatures down to -20°C (-4°F), under water, in salt water or in humid climate zones. Araldite® 2051 also cures rapidly, but has a somewhat longer open time, therefore making it more suitable for use in warm environments up to 40°C (104 °F) and in very humid areas. Both adhesives are easy to use, need only minimal surface preparation and offer strong bonding on various substrates such as metals, composites and thermoplastics.
Own technology center for adhesive applications
With the Adhesive Competence Center, Bodo Möller Chemie offers a comprehensive full service in all matters related to adhesive application technology. In a modern and certified state-of-the-art adhesive laboratory, all common adhesive test methods are available in order to test all structural adhesive types in accordance with ISO, EN, and DVS standards, and to determine their mechanical, thermal and structural properties. Based on laboratory test results, adhesive bonds are calculated with mathematical methods and FEM software (finite element method) as well as with the customer’s substrates. With these data, adhesive engineers get an important tool in their hands so they can create high-quality and safe adhesive bonds. Development processes can thus be significantly shortened as well as designed more safely and efficiently. The Adhesive Competence Center is certified in accordance with the highest safety classes (A1/S1) for the bonding of rail vehicles and their parts in accordance with DIN 6701-2 and the quality requirements imposed on bonding processes in accordance with DIN 2304-1. Under the FASt – Future Automobile Solutions – Initiative, Bodo Möller Chemie bundles the future-oriented product solutions and consulting services for innovative mobility technologies. Matched to the requirements of the new technologies, an extensive portfolio is available to users that includes high-performance materials made by leading manufacturers, especially for use in lightweight construction, battery technology, thermal management, electric motors, electric and electronic components as well as 3D printing.
