The Bodo Möller Chemie Group has been the official sales partner for BASF Personal Care products in the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa since January. This not only allows the company to expand and extend its long-standing partnership with BASF but also actively help shape the future of personal care in this region.
Under the new sales remit commenced at the start of this year, Bodo Möller Chemie is consolidating its position in markets where consumer needs and sustainability requirements are evolving rapidly. However, this remit covers far more than merely supplying the broad, premium BASF portfolio of active agents, surfactants, plasticizers, UV filters, and polymers in the region. Bodo Möller Chemie has been operating in Africa and the Middle East for many years, drawing on a network of some 110 employees, including sales and technical experts, and twenty warehouse locations covering 30 countries. The application laboratories in Nigeria and Egypt, along with the laboratory for personal care products recently set up in Dubai, are central to operations. They deliver formulation development, application tests, and technical advisory services firsthand on a local and regional level. This means customer-specific solutions can be created and adapted to market requirements more promptly.
“We made a conscious decision not to focus on sales for the Personal Care segment alone. Technical implementation on the market is key, from the initial formulation idea through to market-specific adaptation,” states Frank Haug, Bodo Möller Chemie Group CEO. “Expanding our partnership with BASF in these regions builds on more than fifty years of trust-based collaboration and marks a key step for both parties.”
This partnership approach plays a fundamental role in achieving these objectives. Local teams work closely with brands, manufacturers, and formulators to integrate regional trends, consumer requirements, and the regulatory framework into product development. This creates tailored solutions that not only comply with technical requirements but also help to position brands. “Our laboratory and sales teams have extremely detailed knowledge of local markets,” adds Abdallah Dabaghi, Executive Vice President MEA. “This in-depth understanding enables us to provide efficient support for projects while actively advancing sustainability. Being entrusted with this remit means a great deal to us and I thank BASF for placing their trust in our teams’ work.”
