Bodo Möller Chemie takes over the sub-Saharan market for Kraton Polymers Leading block copolymers for applications ranging from asphalt to cosmetics
With the key regions in southern Africa, the Bodo Möller Chemie Group takes over the sales & distribution for the worldwide leading copolymer products of Kraton Polymers. Startin in April, the products and relevant application know-how will be available through Bodo Möller Chemie’s African presence in the countries of Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Kraton polymers are used in numerous applications: in adhesives and sealants, coatings, consumer and body care products, in automobile manufacture and many other plastic products. Kraton copolymers are characterized by a combination of high strength, a very wide Shore-A hardness scale and low viscosity for easy thermoplastic processing. Also included are the high-performance Kraton additives that allow the successful upcycling of recycled plastics.
Strengthening of the presence in Africa
“Kraton has a leading position in numerous markets and, as manufacturer of polymers, can offer an enormous production capacity like few others which is the reason that it is a valuable supplier and partner for us. Together with our product solutions in the area of plastic stabilization, we offer the African customer in the polymer processing area a complete solution from one single source,” says Mark Hepburn, Managing Director of Bodo Möller Chemie South Africa (PTY) Ltd. In this way, the Bodo Möller Chemie Group is strengthening its presence in the African market, and keeps expanding its pioneering role as distributor and application specialist. USBC and HSBC block copolymers are important products for improving and specifying the properties of materials. For example, it contributes elastic advantages because the material can now be deformed, but returns to its original form, thereby meeting the high standards for special applications like polymer-modified asphalt. Soft thermoplastic elastomers are used in the packaging industry as well as in adhesive tape solutions, hoses and tubes, in the medical sector, and as coating and sealing materials.
CirKular+™ Sustainable Solutions for Circular Economy
New Kraton’s product line, CirKular+™, enables a holistic approach to the plastic product life cycle and the circular economy. CirKular+™ products are multi-resin compatibilizers and performance enhancement additives for upcycling mixed post-consumer (PCR) and post-industrial (PIR) polyolefinic streams in a wide range of applications. At a low dosage, CirKular+™ additives help enhance mechanical properties, increase PCR content and design recyclability, enabling a mono-material approach to substitute a combination of polyolefins used with other less recyclable resins. CirKular+™ additives are a drop-in solution for recyclers, converters and brand owners. Upcycling increases the value of reusing the recycled plastic materials throughout the value chain.
For the cosmetics industry, Kraton presented the Ellamera product line last year for the formulation of beauty and cosmetic products. The versatile product range allows a novel formulation of oil-based cosmetic products. All the products mentioned here are sold & distributed in Africa through Bodo Möller Chemie.
