Structural bonding in the body construction for automotive

In body-in-white, the spot welding process is increasingly being replaced or supplemented by structural bonding. The advantages here are optimized crash behavior and improved corrosion protection. As a rule, adhesives are applied to the raw part and spot-welded to each other through the adhesive seam. The adhesive then hardens in the KTL furnace.

3M™ Double coated tape GPT-020F

3M™ Double Coated Tape GPT-020F have high instant adhesion, high temperature and humidity resistance and excellent shear performance. The tapes bond to many high surface energy substrates and some low surface energy substrates, including stainless steel, HDPE, ABS, acrylic, PP, polycarbonate, aluminium or glass. The tape is suitable for various markets and applications including POP/POS displays, light boxes, sports equipment, indoor and outdoor signs, furniture trim attachment, mounting of electronics or plastic parts.

3M™ Scotch-Weld™ 2-part acrylic based adhesive DP8005/DP8010

3M™ Scotch-Weld™ acrylic based adhesives withstand extreme temperatures, develop strength quickly and feature high impact and peel resistance. They are suitable for bonding most plastics, aluminum, steel, lightly oily metal surfaces, and low surface energy plastics (PE, PP, TPE). 3M™'s acrylic based adhesives are quick and easy to apply and provide bonds that replace metal fasteners for improved aesthetics. 3M™ acrylic adhesives are available in low-odor and non-flammable versions. Among 3M™'s most popular construction adhesives are the 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ DP8005 and 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ DP8010.

3M™ spray adhesives

3M™ spray adhesive are suitable for OEM to on-site construction fabrication. 3M™ spray adhesives are suitable for bonding to metal, high-pressure laminate (HPL), plastic, insulation, foam, fabric, wood, MDF and a wide range of other substrates. 3M™ spray adhesive offer many advantages, including being very efficient on large surfaces, being quick to apply, convenient and easy to use, eliminating equipment maintenance and other costs. One of the most popular spray adhesives is 3M™ Super 77™ Multipurpose Spray Adhesive.

3M™VHB™ Tape series

3M™VHB™ Tape Series are high performance double sided tapes made from 100% closed-cell acrylic foam. The tapes exhibit with a high initial tack, have excellent bonding properties with high tensile and shear strength, have high temperature-, weathering-, UV- and solvent resistance and conformability and bond materials with rough or smooth surfaces, too. 3M™ VHB™ tapes are suitable for many materials and are used today in a wide variety of markets such as rail and commercial vehicles, electronics, windows and doors, household appliances and in the construction, aerospace and furniture industries.

BETAMATE™ 1-component epoxy resin adhesives

Specially developed for use in automotive shell construction to increase crash stability and stiffness. They adhere excellently to the oiled steel and aluminium grades used.

BETAMATE™ 2-component epoxy resin adhesives

For crash-resistant structural bonding of repair sheets and metals in general as well as fiber-reinforced plastics. Achieves approximately the strength of 1K epoxy resin adhesives.

DOWSIL™ Silicone sealants

Silicon-based sealants from Dow last longer and are more versatile than most organic polymer sealants. They are durable RTV sealants; cure at room temperature to a tough, rubbery solid with exceptional performance characteristics; and meet a wide variety of your industrial bonding and sealing needs.

L&L Aircraft panel reinforcements

L&L Core splice adhesives

Expanding adhesive mats used in composite sandwich structures. For bonding honeycomb joints and edge formation on GRP/CFRP pressed parts. Mats can be cut to size and expand thermally in ovens, presses or autoclaves. Low density.

L&L T-Link™

T-Link™ film is a dry-to-the-touch, engineered thermoplastic adhesive that can be applied to bond metal surfaces to eachother, as well as bond composite layers. Its typical bonding temperature is between 140 and 175°C, and at those temperature the molten film penetrates dry glass wovens to allow for the production of thermoplastic composites.
